Knotty Pine Flooring Adds a Classic Touch to Your Cabin
Walking in the front door of your cabin and seeing a beautifully polished Knotty Pine floor adds a sense of pleasure and charm. Rustic floors complement pine-paneled or log walls as nothing else can. The amazing pinewood shown here has the dark knots, color variations, and mineral streaks that everyone wants.
Its soft patina and rich glow draw your eyes right to it. This can be your floors with crafted installation and finishing.
Beautifully Finished Knotty Pine Floor
Unfinished and pre-finished Knotty Pine flooring are hot items for log cabins, homes, and offices. Unfinished flooring is available in 4”, 5”, and 6” widths and pre-finished knotty pine comes in a 6” width to meet your personal tastes.
To save sawing and installation time and material, you can purchase tongue and groove boards with the end-matching system. These features are cut on each side and end for fast and easy installation.
To save even more installation time, buy your flooring in pre-finished condition. The better-quality woods have a unique micro-chamfer (tongue and groove) running around all the edges for easy laying and provide a pleasant look.
Just nail it down to finish your flooring project. Pre-finished flooring is sanded to perfection and professionals apply a durable finish giving it the advantage of an even application with no runs or sags. Last, the boards are dried under controlled conditions to a perfect finish.
Both unfinished and pre-finished Knotty Pine flooring adds a warm country look to any room in your house. While some consumers may worry about the durability of pine for their floors, you can make your pine floors more dent resistant by following a few easy steps.
Knotty Pine Loft and Roof Decking
We use the same high-quality wood for our Knotty Pine loft and roof (ceiling) decking as we do for our flooring. All boards are milled to precise dimensions, dried to correct moisture content for stability and stain application, and stored flat until shipment.
Loft decking has finish quality on the top and bottoms of boards, while the roof decking is finish quality only on the bottom.
Pine is versatile enough to take a variety of finishes, like varnish, polyurethane, tung oil, stains, and clean coats.
The most popular size for both loft and roof decking is 2”x6” wide and 1-1/2” thick. Both come with the same tongue and groove, end-matching features as flooring which allows the boards to fit tightly together for fast and easy no-waste installation.
Our quality, service, and prices make a difference when compared to the competition.
Additional Benefits of Pine Flooring for Your Cabin
Pine flooring has been used for centuries in America and Europe for its many benefits.
- Using Pine is going green because it is a sustainable wood species and more so than hardwoods that grow slowly and are gradually disappearing.
- Its rustic look is appealing to almost everyone of all ages.
- This wood is budget-friendly and takes stain and finishes well.
- Over time, Pine floors develop a beautiful patina.
- Pine is durable and has stood the test of time.
- There are several options for Pine wood species.
- It typically does not shrink or swell.
If you love the floors in lodges, older homes, or cabins, this is the wood for you. You can distress the boards for an antique or more rustic appeal. Pine is versatile enough to take a variety of finishes, like varnish, polyurethane, tung oil, stains, and clean coats.
To extend the life of a Pine floor in humid climates, you can apply 2 or 3 coats of a polyurethane finish. In short, it’s just hard to beat Pine wood flooring and decking.
How to Install Pine Flooring and Decking
When your order of Pine flooring or decking arrives, it will need sanding and a finish applied unless the wood is pre-finished. One of Knotty Pine’s significant advantages is it’s easier to sand and install than hardwood. Install your flooring in a new cabin in the following manner:
- Level and nail down the subfloor and remove any debris.
- Add underlayment cushioning to the subfloor, if desired.
- Next, draw the flooring layout to scale to know how many boards you need.
- Run the boards across the floor joists, not parallel with them.
- Walk across the room to see if it squeaks or has any high spots. If you find any noisy areas or high places, put screws in the floor.
Flooring Installation Should Be Done With Precision
At this point, you must decide if you want to start laying the floor in the middle of the room or against one wall. To help with this, measure the width of the room and divide that number by the width of a board.
If this number is not even, make an adjustment, so each edge/wallboard is equal length. Now:
- Nail the first row of boards in place so they won’t move.
- Put a board in place, tap it with a block and hammer, staple it in place, and repeat.
- Cut boards to fit around corners and doorways.
- Lay all boards, clean them, and apply the finish.
Stay off the floor until it thoroughly dries and do not allow a draft to blow over the floor. If you do not have the skills or tools to tackle this project, get a few bids from flooring companies.
Take the one with the combination of best review, pricing, and your gut feeling.
